A Language and Cultural Immersion Program
for Educators
Program Objective
To give educators the opportunity to improve their Spanish language
skills, enhance their cultural sensitivity and competency, and
to learn about education in Costa Rica.
Program Goals

To improve attendees’ language skills (levels may range
from low beginning through high advanced).

To enhance attendees’ cultural competency by offering
opportunities to experience local schools and educational programs.

To give attendees the opportunity to stay with host families
to enhance cultural understanding and to improve language skills
through total immersion.
- To provide attendees with information about education in Costa
Rica from all aspects (pedagogy, counseling, administrative,
etc.)
Program Format
This program is scheduled for a two weeks period with specific
days and times for curriculum-related activities. This program
will provide a total of 40 hours of language classes and 16 hours
of cultural classes and activities. Each class has a maximum of
four students and the emphasis is on conversation.

First Monday: Orientation and classes begin
Monday – Friday: Language classes 20 hours per week (40 hours in total)
Tuesday & Thursday: Cultural classes and visits to schools Final Friday evening:

2009 Program Dates
The arrival day is Saturday July 4th.
The departure day is Saturday July 18th.
2009 Program Fees:
Not included in this fee:
The cost of airfare and any tour or excursion such as jungle tour,
etc.
Program fees also include:

Shuttle from and to the Airport: San Jose International
Airport (SJO).

Accommodations: Two meals daily (breakfast and dinner)
and laundry service.

Classes: Cooking and dance classes on campus.

Study materials: Language workbook, vocabulary
book, and other cultural materials.

Internet Access: Internet connection and computer
lab on school campus.

Tourism: Tours and excursions available through
the school.

Tour of the city: Learn about local attractions
and points of interest.

either before or after the program.
